The Awen experience
Awen is a Welsh word, which is hard to translate directly, but roughly means
'inspiration'. It was a moment of Awen that prompted our decision to share this
beautiful house with our guests. At Awen Bed and Breakfast, we hope that you may
be inspired to explore our part of the country further:

  • The area is very popular with cyclists and walkers for the nearby Cwmcarn
Forest Drive (featuring the Cwmcarn Downhill) and the Sirhowy Valley
    Country Park.

  • The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is now within easy reach by train. A
    haven for rugby fans!

  • Newport and Cardiff are within easy reach with a variety of shops and
    cultural events

  • Within walking distance of the Calzaghe gym

  • Stay with us on a Thursday or Sunday night and attend a rehearsal of the
world famous Risca Male Voice choir, as a guest.

  • The museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans makes for a fascinating day out,
with many reconstructed Welsh houses... including an original Welsh
longhouse, dating from the same time as Penrhiwgwair Cottage itself!
Below on the left is a picture of how our kitchen might have looked in the
17th century. And on the right is how it looks today!
